Education DNB Programme
The National Board of Examination (NBE) has recognized Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital for Diplomate of National Board (D.N.B.), Postgraduate training / Fellowship Programme in Ophthalmology and also for providing training for International fellows.
Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital started a Medical Education & Medical Research Department in July 2010. It offers Long Term Fellowship: Anterior segment, Glaucoma, Cornea, Retina, Comprehensive Ophthalmology, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Orbit and Oculoplasty. Short Term Fellowship: Small incision cataract surgery, Phaco-emulsification surgery, Diagnosis & Management of Glaucoma, Short term fellowship in Retina.

Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital is accredited by the National Board of Examinations to offer a 3-year training programme leading to DNB in Ophthalmology. Candidates for the programme need to be Indian Nationals. Seat will be allotted through centralized counseling by NEET exam during JAN session.
For this three year program, two candidates are admitted twice in a year. Out of the two candidates selected, one is a primary candidate and the other a secondary candidate.
Primary candidate: These are the students who are admitted immediately after MBBS.
Secondary candidate: These are the students who finished both their MBBS and Diploma in Ophthalmology.
Procedure to Join
Candidates desirous of applying for the course should have passed MBBS and should have cleared CET conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). Subsequently, they should be registered for the centralized counselling with NBE in order to be eligible for the admissions. The candidate may choose “Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital” as their preferred choice to undergo the DNB training in Ophthalmology. Then the candidate may come and join as per NBE guidelines.

Sankar Foundation conducts a 2 year Diploma course in Ophthalmology. We invite applications from interested candidates in the month of May every year accepting a maximum student limit of 8 per year.

Components of Training
There are various components of training that are imparted during the three year DNB program. Some of them are listed below:-
- Bedside Clinic Training.
- On call duties during emergency hours under supervision.
- Attending Out -patient Departments.
- Handling general ophthalmic cases independently.
- Follow up on surgical cases.
- Assisting in all major & minor operations/ procedures.
- Consulting with the faculty of various subspecialties in related ophthalmic diseases.
- Performance of minor surgeries / procedures independently.
- The team of DNB post graduates, doctors and support staff go for Comprehensive Eye Screening Camps in the rural areas in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh wherein the postgraduates get a wide clinical experience hands on.
