Major Milestones:

1

Foundation  was Established on 28 July,1984.

2

Established an Eye Hospital 2nd June 1997.

3

First Surgery conducted on 6th June 1997.

Retina Division started in 2001.

Recognized as the Best Social Organization by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh in 2002.

Recognized as Training Institute by NPCB to impart training to Ophthalmologists in SICS Techniques & Phaco.

Accepted by Sightsavers, UK and CBM, Germany as an Indian partner in 2003.

8

Cornea Division inaugurated in 2004.

9

Govt. of Andhra Pradesh alienated 2 acres of land to Sankar Foundation in 2004.

Ground breaking ceremony performed for the new Hospital building by Sir John Major, Former British Prime Minister on 9th March 2005.

BBC World telecast a Documentary – ‘Seeing is Believing’ a film on Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital, on 8th October 2005.

Construction of the new building started in March 2006.

13

Gruhapravesham into the New Hospital Building held on March 29th 2008.

Recognized as network Hospital under Aarrogyasri scheme of Govt. of A.P. in September 2008.

Completed 1,00,000 Surgeries by March 2009.

Started Medical Education & Medical Research Depts. in July 2010.

17 The National Board of Examination has recognized our hospital for DNB (Doctorate of Medicine), Postgraduate training / Fellowship Programme in Ophthalmology. Providing training for International fellows.

Completed 1,50,000 surgeries in 27 November 2012.

19

Started B.Sc (Optometry) 4 years graduation course on 7th July 2010, Recognised by IGNOU.

20 During the year 2012, Sankar Foundation has taken up first of its kind of project in India to train Ophthalmic Human Resources of Government of Andhra Pradesh under APHRD project in association with Sight Savers International (International NGO).
21 To rehabilitate children with hearing impairment a project named Sri VenkateswaraSRAVANAM was started in association with Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam, Tirupathi. A total of 43 children below three years of age are undergoing rehabilitation since June 2012.
22 Completed 2,00,000 surgeries in 23 October 2013.

Screened 14,86,237 Out Patients & performed 2,40,052 Eye Surgeries, rural eye camps 4,289 by December 2015.

24

Screened 2,53,929 school children for refractive errors and issued 5,601 spectacles by December 2015.
