Chronological developments of Sankar Foundation:

Sankar Foundation came into being on 28th July 1984 , bearing Registered No. 9485/84, under the Indian Public Charitable Trust Act, with Dr. K.Parvathi Kumar garu as
Chairman , Founder Trustee, Late Sri D.V.Subba Rao garu as Vice-Chairman, Founder Trustee, Late Sri Atmakuri Sankar Rao garu as Managing Trustee, Founder Trustee, Smt. Atmakuri Yashoda garu as Founder Trustee.

Managing Trustee, Sankar Foundation for 28 years and Vice-Chairman for 2 years.

He received several awards for his selfless service. Among them were: Most Outstanding Service award from Rotary Club, Waltair, Master MN Award from World Teacher Trust, Madras Telugu Academy's Ugadi Puraskaram, Rotary International Special Recognition Award for being a major donor to Rotary Foundation in 2000-2001, Rotary Foundation award, Lions Club International award and Best Surgical NGO award to Sankar Foundation from the District Collector, Srikakulam.

Foundation Services Activities During the years 1984 – 1997:
  • This Foundation provided health care services in the areas of Women and Child Welfare and strived to eradicate Tuberculosis programs.
  • This Foundation provided health care services in the areas of Women and Child Welfare and strived to eradicate Tuberculosis programs.
  • And constructed houses, public toilets, bore wells etc., especially in tribal areas.
  • As part of statutory financial existence, Foundation registered with Income Tax Department and obtained PAN 10 23C, 12 A, 80G

Year 1997:
  • The Founder Trustees have realized that poverty, lack of awareness about curable blindness, and limited resources in Ophthalmology are the root cause of sufferings of millions of poor people in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. With a dream to bring light back into the lives of those unfortunate people suffering from curable blindness and to foster excellence in ophthalmic patient care. These Trustees have established Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital (SFEH), Registered No. 150/1997, Super Speciality, , registered by Government of Andhra Pradesh, on 2nd June 1997 at Simhachalam, Visakhapatnam, in a 2 bed room rented building.
  • This Foundation provided health care services in the areas of Women and Child Welfare and strived to eradicate Tuberculosis programs.
  • Shri A. Ram Das Garu joined as Trustee.

The hospital was among the 2,000 eye hospitals in six countries selected for a visit by former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom John Major .
