Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital conducts Diploma Course in Ophthalmic Assistant (DOA) for 30 students and Diploma Course in Ophthalmic Technician (DOM ) recognized by Para Medical Board , Government of Andhra Pradesh . These admissions are done through counselling by District Medical & Health Officer, Visakhapatnam. Eligibility: 10+2 pass . It is two year full time 100 % job oriented course.

  • Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistant (DOA)
  • Ophthalmic assistants help ophthalmologists in care for patients by taking history, performing various procedures and tests, and preparing patients to see the doctor. They will perform many different eye-related clinical functions. Their work provides the ophthalmogists with important information to help diagnose and treat patients.

    During the course period, the students acquire skills in health sciences and will have the opportunity to practice their skills in a clinical setting. They acquire knowledge and skill in testing of glasses, retinoscopy, identifying common eye diseases, conducting camps and taking active role in prevention of blindness during their course. The course may cover topics such as front office procedures and patient billing.

  • Diploma in Optometry Technician (DOM)
  • Optometric technicians work with optometrists to assist in carrying out eye examinations and treatments. An optometric technician’s work responsibilities include testing patients’ visual acuity, depth perception, pressure inside of the eye, colour vision and pupil reflexes. In addition, they prepare exam schedules, ready exam rooms, assist in making or repairing eyeglasses, clean ocular equipment and other duties as needed. Optometry Technicians also pre-test patients, schedule appointments, answer phones, and sell contact lenses and back-up glasses.

    During the course period, the students are trained towards a career in optometry include anatomy, physiology of the eye, optics, optometric procedures and optical devices. The course may cover soft skills as an optometric technician will require having a good rapport with patients, communicating effectively with superiors, and being precise in their work. The students will also be familiarized with common office applications.

    This year we are planning to enrol and offer for 30 students for DOA and 30 students for DOM . And we are trying to fetch sponsors to provide Hostel and Food facility , tuition fee paid to Para Medical Board , Government of Andhra Pradesh and pocket money of Rs.500 per month for 30 student from economically poor and Rural areas. It costs the sponsor of Rs.1,50,000 per student / for two years. Employment for desired candidates after completion of course will be provided by Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital . Post completion candidates can get opportunity to establish own vision centre/optical or work at any eye hospital or Optical sale shop and also may get a Government job and earn minimum salary of Rs. 15,000 per month initially.
